In this guide I will show you how you can customise widgets on your Kodi/XBMC device using skins that support custom widgets. I will be using the Aeon Nox 5 skin in this example as it is a very popular skin due to the levels of customization that are available.
Other skins that support this are:
If it works on any other skin then please let me know.
I will also be using the Genesis add-on for this guide. This is one of the more popular video add-ons and most people will already have this installed.
The widgets that are created show 25 videos but if you use my guide for increasing video entries in Genesis you can increase this number, which can mean you don’t even have to leave your home screen to find something to watch. However if you do increase the number of entries the widget will take longet to load. So if you have a slow connection you may not want to do it.
Here are some examples of widgets you can create and the text you need to enter into the custom widget to view them. The guide is below these examples. Please try some of them and leave some feedback.

Here is how you can use these to make a custom widget in the Aeon Nox 5 skin. You can do this with other skins that allow you to make custom widgets.
- Select SYSTEM
- Select Appearance
- Select Skin
- Select Settings
- Select Home Window
- Select Setup the Aeon Nox main menu
You can choose any of your main menu items here but I am going to choose my Films section
- Select Select widget
- Select Custom (Video Add-ons)
In the next screen marked Enter The New Label you must fist put in the action that we want the widget to complete. For this example I am going to make the widget show the Box Office listings. So I would add:
Then select Done
The next screen that appears is also marked Enter The New Label but this is the window in which you enter the name you want to appear under the widget on your main menu. For this example we will use Box Office and then select Done
If done in the correct order you should see the name you gave the widget in the Select widget section
On your home screen you should now see the new widget above the section you chose with the name you gave it.
This guide is unfinished as I need to show you an easy way of finding what you need to enter into a widget to make it display what you want. I will update the guide further this evening when I have some free time. This is just really to give you an idea of what can be done.
